IN a SAFA Nelson Mandela Bay Women’s Regional League match, which fans described as an extremely tough encounter, Volcano Ladies’ FC won 1-0 over the gutsy Shatterprufe Ladies’ FC at Motherwell NU 9 Stadium on Sunday.

The team under the helm of Maurice Camelio, who is the former coach of Bafana goalkeeper, Ronwen Williams, put up a great performance against the hosts.

Shatterprufe did not give Volcano any goal scoring opportunities.

Goalkeeper Bronwin Plaatjies was outstanding in goal for Shatterprufe, as she reacted excellently to some close range shots.

Maureecha Camelio also marshalled her defence outstandingly.

Volcano skipper, Babalwa Peter, tried her best to make a breakthrough, but she was kept under a watchful eye by Shatterprufe’s defenders. Volcano goal poacher Kamvelihle Speelman did not live up to the expectations as her attempts went begging.

At last, Volcano broke the deadlock after their goal was scored by Aphiwe Shumpa from a direct free kick, giving them the victory.
