THE Walk of Hope, a fun 5km walk for the whole family and their dogs, will take place at the Boardwalk on Saturday.

All funds raised will be going to the Animal Anti-Cruelty League (AACL) outreach programmes, which include spayathons, dipathons, fencing off of yards in order to facilitate animals being released from chains and the one-dog, one-kennel project.

“Please bring your dogs for a great walk. All dogs must be on a leash.

“Rescue dogs will also be there for you to walk, if you don’t have a dog of your own,” said Linda-Louise Swain of AACL.

The walk will start from the Lighthouses area in the 2nd Avenue parking lot.

Registration will start at 8am and the walk begins at 9am. Entrance is R40 per person.

There will be stalls for the adults, where they can enjoy coffee and a cupcake or something more substantial for breakfast after the walk, while the little ones can enter the Kiddies Corner, where there will be all sorts of entertainment, including colouring-in competitions and face painting.

“There are lovely prizes to be won, raffles and the auction of a unique dog toy that was a winner at an international expo. We are also looking for animals made from recycled material. This entrepreneurial competition will have a first, second and third prize for individual entries and a family prize for the best family,” Swain said.

The Rother-Swain and Pearson High School drama pups will be part of a flashmob, representing all areas of animal cruelty, which will end with the children taking off the tape from their mouths and symbolically speaking for those who cannot speak for themselves.
