Westering-leerders bring 50’s musiek-revue na Baai

DIE Hoërskool Westering se talentvolle leerders maak hulself tans gereed om die West Side Story- musiek-revue aan te bied.

Ongeveer 55 leerders is by die produksie betrokke, met elke personeellid van Westering betrokke agter die skerms.

West Side Story is ’n bekroonde 1957 Broadway musiek-revue geïnspireer deur William Shakespeare se Romeo and Juliet. Die verhaal speel af in New York in die middel 1950’s.

In die musiekblyspel ontvou die konflik en wedywering tussen twee jeugbendes, naamlik die Jets en die Sharks, met uiteenlopende agtergronde. Die situasie word bemoeilik wanneer een van die bendelede, Tony, verlief raak op Maria, die suster van die een van die opposisie bendelede.

Van Leonard Bernstein se mees ikoniese musiek word in die blyspel gehoor, naamlik Maria, Somewhere, Tonight en I Feel Pretty. Dit is vir film in 1961 verwerk en het ook kritiese lof daarvoor verwerf.

Die Hoërskool Westering sal weer lewe gee aan die West Side Story musiek-revue vanaf 1 tot 4 Augustus om 19:00 in die Savoy-teater in Adcockvale. Daar is ook ’n middagvertoning op 4 Augustus om 14:00.

Kaartjies teen R60 per volwassene en R30 per leerder, student en pensioenaris is by die skool in Papenkuilsstraat beskikbaar. Vir meer inligting kontak die skool by 041 360 7805.
