Will a local athlete win the Motherwell freedom race?

2018-04-04 06:01

THE second event of the Legacy Project races, presented by Eastern Province Athletics in partnership with Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality, will be held this Saturday, April 7.

The Motherwell Freedom Race, which includes a 10km road race and 5km family run/walk, will start and finish in the Motherwell NU2 Stadium.

Central Gauteng athlete, Namakoe Nkhasi, of Nedbank CGA, won the 10km Freedom Race last year in a time of 28:40, and the first woman home was also from out of town, Lebogang Phalula, of Boxer Superstar Athletics Club, in a time of 33.51. It will therefore be interesting to see if our local athletes will lead the finish this Saturday.

Michael Mbambani, of Eastern Province Athletics, announced that the first 400 entrants in the 10km would receive free T-shirts.

The 10km will start at 07:00, while the 5km starts at 07:15, and this is a EPA Participation League event.

Entry forms are available from Brian Bands, The Footballer, Action Sports, Sportsworld, Sportsmans Warehouse in Port Elizabeth or Brocketts in Uitenhage until close of business today.

Registration and late entries will take place at the NU2 Stadium in Motherwell from 16:30 to 19:00 on Friday and also from 05:00 on the morning of the race. For more information, contact Mike on 079 149 6796, or EP Athletics on 041 374 2818.
