FOR over a decade, Willie Zevenster has been at the helm of Sunridge Build it, situated in the heart of the popular Port Elizabeth suburb, Sunridge Park. He has been living in Sunridge Park for more than 20 years.

His passion and dedication to offering a friendly and competitive service, not only to his immediate community but also the greater Port Elizabeth, is unrivalled.

“The reason I opened the store 12 years ago, was to supply building materials and other DIY products at good prices and providing the best service to our customers on a daily basis.”

With over 9 000 different products in the store, which is based in Sunridge Village Shopping Centre, the range is extensive. Products include roof tiles, building material, paint and hardware – everything an aspiring builder, fixer or professional contractor would need.

Zevenster, a keen DIY man himself, is very proud of his store which employs 20 staff, and adds that “although we are a small store, we have a very big offering to all our builders and DIY customers.”

The point of difference in the store is that it is family-owned and family run. His wife Dina, and son Diether also work in the store. “We make an effort to source products immediately if our customers need assistance. There is no red tape involved.” The added benefit of working with family is that everyone has an interest in the business.

In addition, he enjoys interacting with customers, and suppliers. “My relationship with both my suppliers and customers is hugely important to me.”

Any challenges? “We always have challenges. Where we can, we address them and where we can’t, we let go. Our main focus is always our business, ensuring we provide our very loyal customer base with the best service possible.”

Sunridge Build it is also very committed to upliftment in sport and is eagerly involved in creating opportunities for children in this field. They are the title sponsor for Sunridge Build it-PE Football Association u13 tournament, as well as Framesby Inter-schools cross country. They are also a major sponsor for the Charlo 7’s – a rugby and netball tournament (u13 and u11).
