SEPTEMBER is gold ribbon month – marked as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. It is a time when countries honour and remember children and families affected by the disease, and help rally awareness surrounding the early warning signs of childhood cancer. The Childhood Cancer Foundation of Southern Africa (CHOC) invites all to support children battling cancer by purchasing a ticket to their “Cheese and Wine Under the Stars” event on September 13. They will host a boutique wine tasting event at the Roof Garden Bar at 33 Winston Ntshona Street (formerly Chapel Street). The organisation encourages patrons to wear a touch of gold on the evening to show their support to children battling cancer in the community and around the world. Gold ribbons and pins will also be on sale at R20 each, with the ribbon to be worn throughout the month of September. Donning the gold ribbon will go a long way towards raising awareness about the disease and will show support to those battling cancer around the world. With every R20 donation, CHOC offers children transport from their homes to a treatment centre, or will purchase a filling to make the daily sandwiches they serve to children and their guardians at the outpatient clinic.CHOC is the only organisation in South Africa that provides nationwide physical and psychosocial support to families and children diagnosed with cancer and life-threatening blood disorders, and can only offer support to families in a time of crisis with your help. Tickets are R220 each, or R2 200 for 10 tickets, plus one free.
