Wits FC claim victory in Safa Eastern Cape’s Nedbank Cup

SAFA Eastern Cape hosted its Nedbank Cup games in Jeffreys Bay on November 25 and 26, where the hosts, Wits FC, ended up taking the honours.

The games took place at Tokyo Sexwale Stadium and Pellsrus Stadium.

The teams that represented their regions were Wits FC (Sarah Baartman), Thohoyandou FC (Safa Alfred Nzo), Mayaya FC (Safa Amathole), Mighty Swallows FC (Safa Buffalo City), Mighty Bucks FC (Safa Joe Gqabi), NMU Madibaz FC (Safa Nelson Mandela Bay) and AC Milan FC (Safa OR Tambo).

The tournament was played in a knockout format from the word go.

In the first games, Mighty Swallows overcame Mighty Bucks 4-1 on penalties after their game ended 1-1, while Wits shared a hard-fought 2-2 draw with Thohoyandou.

Wits FC won the game 3-2 in a penalty shoot-out.

On the second day, AC Milan FC thwarted Mayaya FC 3-0, while Madibaz advanced to the semi-finals after eliminating Amavarara FC 2-0 on penalties following their full-time 1-1 draw.

Madibaz lost 3-1 on penalties to Wits after they shared a 1-1 full-time draw in the semi-finals. AC Milan went down 3-2 on penalties as well to Mighty Swallows after their game ended in a hard-fought 1-1 draw.

In the finals, Wits FC defeated Mighty Swallows 3-1 on penalties after they drew 1-1 in regulation time.

According to Safa EC secretary Isaac Klaas, Wits will take on EC Bees on December 9.
