CELEBRATE Women’s Day on Thursday, August 9, by joining the popular Diva Run.

The Diva Run has been planned to cater for all women, serious athletes, fun runners, moms and their daughters.

This year, the Pearson Institute of Higher Education, will be sponsoring a full three-year bursary valid at any one of their 12 campuses in South Africa, as a superb lucky draw incentive open to all participants in both the 10km and 5km runs, valued at over R100 000.

“The bursary is the highlight of our lucky draw competition, which means you don’t have to win one of the races to win it!” said Elizna Theron, campus principal of the Pearson Institute, Port Elizabeth.

Anyone who enters the 10km race or 5km fun run will be eligible for the bursary prize but you must be there to claim it.

She said the bursary draw would bring the prize-giving to an exciting conclusion after the 10km cut off at 8:30 on the Saturday.

The official prize-giving ceremony will take place at Kings Beach, Humewood.

To encourage the serious athletes, Irene van Eeden, Eastern Province Athletics race organizer, confirmed that a record incentive of R10 000 will be awarded for a new Eastern Province senior record and R1500 on offer for age group records by registered Eastern Province athletes.

Van Eeden has also organised an entertainment area for kids to play safely while mom enjoys her run.

The play area will be strictly controlled with safety arm bands to give parents peace of mind. The popular Diva run, presented by Eastern Province Athletics in partnership with Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality, will start and finish at Kings Beach, Port Elizabeth.

The Diva Run, organised exclusively for women, includes three distances: the 10km which starts at 07:00 with a cut off at 08:40; the 5km which starts at 07:15 with a cut-off at 08:15 and the 1.5km Kiddies Dash which starts at 08:15 with a cut-off at 08:40.

Mothers are encouraged to walk with their children for the Kiddies Dash or otherwise leave the kids for the short duration of their run at the well-managed secure Kids Entertainment area.

The cost for the 10km run is R50; 10km runners aged 65 years and over, will only pay 50% of race fee, R25.

The temporary licence, for the 10km only, is R30. It costs R20 for the 5km walk/run, and R10 for the 1.5km Kiddies Dash.

Enter online www.entrytime.com or entry forms are available from Brian Bands, The Footballer, Action Sports, Sportsworld, Sportsmans Warehouse in Port Elizabeth or Brocketts in Uitenhage.

The beneficiary for the Diva Run is the Sanitary Sistas, and women are encouraged to bring a packet of sanitary towels with them to registration to pop into the Sanitary Sistas’ donation box to help less fortunate girls.

Registration and late entries will take place at the Kings Beach Lifesaving Club from 16:30 to 19:00 on Wednesday, August 8 and from 06:00 on the morning of the race.
