WITH a heart full of love for animals and a head for stories, 11-year-old Rebecca Roche is all set to make this an unforgettable Christmas for animals in need.

The Grade 5 Clarendon Primary School pupil recently published a children’s book which has so far raised R15 000 in aid of Animal Welfare in Port Elizabeth.

Her book, Pango finds his true Family, beautifully illustrated by Jeffreys Bay artist Linda Vos, is based on a true story about Pango, a dog, and his journey back to love.

The book is about an abandoned dog who finds his family again after he was also at Animal Welfare.

Pango finds his true Family, which she started writing when she was nine years old, was published last month.

“I write lots of stories. I use my imagination a lot and everything is about dogs,” Rebecca said.

The book she wrote was inspired by her dog, Timmy, which she saved from Animal Welfare in Port Elizabeth.

She said she just wanted to help dogs and did not like to see them suffering.

“Before Christmas last year, I asked my mother to take me to Checkers,” Rebecca said.

“We went and with R350 I bought food for several dogs at Animal Welfare.”

This year, with the funds raised from the book, she is hoping to make it an even more special Christmas for the dogs at Animal Welfare.

So far she has already made R15 000 after all the costs of the book were covered.

The book costs R50 and is available at various outlets.

And she has already started on her next book – the one she is working on now is about how a dog can be your best friend.
