YOUNG Madrid showed that a team can be victorious even if their opponents dominate ball possession, after they defeated Happy Stars 2-0 in their Motherwell Football Association (MOFA) Premier League clash at Motherwell NU 11 Stadium on Sunday.

Stars showed more dominance and Madrid had less ball possession. Most of the fans thought the results would be in favour of Stars. Stars’ skipper, Yamkela Tshepo Khanyela, looked as though he would score his side’s opening goal.

Madrid conceded many corner kicks, but their experienced goalkeeper, Ntsikelelo Zondani, managed to save his side.

Madrid did not rush things but they made good buildups for the goals. MOFA Premier League erstwhile champions were awarded a free kick in a promising area.

Xhantilomzi Meki unleashed a powerful shot from the set-piece that Stars goalkeeper Yongoma Jayiya failed to stop, with the ball crossing Stars’ goal line. Meki’s goal put Madrid 1-0 up front. Stars appeared to be nervous and attacked in numbers. A perfect cross from the left side of Madrid was slotted into the back of the net by Mzikayise Ndaba.

Madrid claimed a well-deserved 2-0 in the full-time.

Stars’ left full-back, Samuel Toto, was one of the outstanding players.
