SUBS defender Bathembu ‘Boy’ Zondani guided his side to a hard-fought 1-0 home victory over Amavarara FC in their ABC Motsepe League clash at Motherwell NU 2 Stadium on Saturday.

The teams went head-to-head in search of an opening goal. SUBS supporters were sent into raptures when Zondani scored a solitary goal that separated the two sides in 65th minute.

Amavarara FC midfielder Lwando Gxaba failed to score after SUBS’ defence failed to avert a danger in their box. However, SUBS decided to make sure that they maintained their lead as they “parked the bus” at the back.

SUBS’ striker, Sikhumbuzo “Pailer” Mshweshwe, was a lone ranger up front. Mshweshwe played well as he gave the defence of Amavarara FC a headache. Sivuyile “Foffy” Dumse was superb in SUBS’ goal.

In the last minutes of the game, Dumse denied Amavarara FC striker Thandolwethu Dingane missed a goal at a close range and SUBS claimed a hard-fought 1-0 home victory.

Another Nelson Mandela Bay side, Highbury FC, salvaged a 1-1 draw when they took on Birmingham City away in East London, while PE Stars drubbed Bush Bucks 4-2 at Saints Grounds in Gelvandale.

Sibanye had not lost any hope of winning the league despite their away 1-1 draw with the tough Bizana Pondo Chiefs at Mpeshwa Sports Field in Bizana.

Peace Makers did not need to sweat for their three league points after their opponents, Yakha United, failed to pitch up for their game that was scheduled to take place at Wolfson Stadium in Kwazakhele.

Future Tigers lost 1-0 in their home game against Matta Milan in Rosedale.

Mthatha Bucks embarrassed Butterworth FC 6-0 at Mthatha Stadium, while Tornado FC defeated The Guys 2-1 at North End Stadium in East London.
