ZONKE Superspar in Motherwell formed three sports teams for its employees recently.

It has soccer, rugby and netball teams.

Zonke Superspar soccer head coach Malwande Kondlo said the motive behind the move was to keep the employees fit and healthy.

Kondlo said the teams consisted entirely of Zonke Superspar employees and were run by Spar.

“We observed that we had many sports players at our workplace,” he said.

“We discussed with the shop owner, Kevin Klertt, about forming teams and he bought our idea.

“I strongly believe that these teams are a tool to unite all the staff of Zonke Superspar. Our workplace has turned into a united family.

“We do not experience occupational stress and it is a good thing to see the entire staff united.”

Kondlo said they conduct their practice sessions during lunch times.

He said the support was immense.

“All our players are enthusiastic and you can see that they are serious. The non-participants also watch us when we are practising.

“We have started playing games in soccer, netball and rugby.

“Whenever we play, the management and members of our community come to support us.

“I want to thank Mr Klertt, Mr Wesley our general manager and Motherwell RFC Secretary Sindaphi Windvoel for the instrumental role they play in our teams.

“Our soccer skipper, Dumisani Vena, leads by example and he has the potential to take our team to higher levels.

“We are looking forward to playing in the Industrial League and we are preparing ourselves for that,” he said.
