THE Zwartkops Conservancy ran a four-day environmental awareness training camp in December which was attended by 70 children from Motherwell aged 10 to 17 years.

At the start of the camp, project coordinator Wandisile Lukwe said the learners had absolutely no understanding about the concept of “environment”.

Some of the activities the children were involved in included an educational talent show with environmental messages on eco-systems, various lesson sessions on pollution, water saving and water pollution, waste management and a debating session on deforestation.

They also enjoyed outdoor activities such as hiking and jogging.

Waste management company EnviroServ contributed to the camp and has also contributed R12 000 a year for the past five years to the Zwartcops Conservancy.

A certificate was handed over to the Masazi Enviro Buddies who attended the camp on February 1 at Jabavu High School, NU 5, Motherwell.
