Twelve suspects have been arrested after a business robbery in Tafelsig for possession of stolen property.

The police arrested five men – aged between 18 and 30 years – on the scene of a business robbery in Rockies Street which occurred in the early hours of Wednesday last week.

Seven more suspects – aged between 25 and 52 years – were arrested for possession of stolen property recovered in a house in Alps Street.

“It is alleged that at 03:00 suspects broke down a security gate at the complainant’s informal shop and he was woken up by the noise. The complainant confronted the suspects and they pulled out a firearm. The suspects fled the scene with cash, cellphones, groceries, padlocks and cigarettes,” says police spokesperson Sergeant Jerome Voegt.

The police received an anonymous tip-off about the whereabouts of the suspects, which led them to a house in Alps Street. There the police confiscated cigarettes, groceries and padlocks.

All the suspects have appeared on related charges.

. In an unrelated incident the police arrested an 18-year-old man for allegedly committing a house robbery in Kunene Street, Portlands.

It is alleged that the suspect entered the complainant’s home and threatened her with a knife. The suspect took a cellphone worth R1900 before fleeing the scene on foot. He has appeared on related charges
