A collective of 125 medals, including 10-year Good Service medals and “Tshumelo Ikatelaho” Good Service medals, were handed over to Navy recipients by flag officer fleet, Rear Admiral Bubele “Bravo” Kittie Mhlana, on Thursday 11 October at the Naval Base in Simon’s Town.

The “Tshumelo Ikatelaho” award came into effect on 27 April 2003 and is awarded to all ranks who have participated in military campaigns or operations.

These operations include deployments as part of the UN peacekeeping missions in Africa and anti-piracy patrols conducted off the Mozambican coast.

The next medal parade to take place in Simon’s Town will be held on Friday 16 November, where medals for 30 and 40 years Good Service will be awarded by the chief of the SA National Defence Force, General Solly Shoke.
