During a special police operation in the Mitchell’s Plain police cluster several search warrants and stop-and-searches were executed in Tafelsig, Beacon Valley and Eastridge on last Monday from 03:30 to noon.

The operation was a part of Operation Lockdown.

Captain Frederick van Wyk, provincial police spokesperson, says 15 premises, seven cars and 127 people were searched.

“Police arrested eight people for cases relating to possession of tik, mandrax, dagga and stolen property,” he says.

Items confiscated include 31 packets of tik, three and a half crushed mandrax tablets and dagga, including a bottle neck, two dagga cigarettes and a sachet with dagga.

Three suspects were found with a dustbin which contained a variety of suspected stolen property, including tools, car parts and loose items, such as a bag of nails, a grass cutter and a speaker.

The suspects appeared in the Mitchell’s Plain Magistrates’ Court last Thursday.

Operational response services, Mitchell’s Plain visible policing and tactical response teams, the K9 unit, Worcester tactical response team, Paarl public order policing and Law Enforcement were the main role players in the operation.
