2 shot, killed in 2 days

A man was shot and killed in a bungalow in a backyard in St Canute Street, Lavender Hill on Sunday 3 December.

Steenberg police spokesperson Warrant Officer John Bartlett says when the officers entered the bungalow they saw a man lying on the floor.

“The 33-year-old victim, Roderick Andrews of St Canute Street, sustained one gunshot wound to the left side of his chest. An ambulance arrived and paramedics declared him dead.

“Three cartridges and one projectile were found on the scene.

“The motive for the shooting is allegedly gang-related and no arrests have been made,” says Bartlett.

In a separate incident police officers responded to a call of a body on an open field in St Boniface Street on Monday 4 ­December.

When the officers got to the scene they found the body of a man covered with a rug on the open field.

“The deceased had sustained gunshot wounds in his upper body and hand.

“He was identified on the scene as the 27-year-old Dane Herold du Toit of Stuckeris Court, Lavender Hill.

“Two 9mm cartridges were found on the scene.

“The motive for the killing is unknown. No arrests have been yet,” says Bartlett.
