3 mugged on street

2016-02-02 06:00

Three young volunteers from Belgium were left shaken after they were robbed at gunpoint in broad daylight on Keurboom Road in Rondebosch.

It is alleged that the robber stole their handbags containing their phones, wallets and cash and fled in a getaway car, a blue Honda.

The women believe they had been followed from Cavendish Square. They are in the country as occupational therapist volunteers at Vista Nova School.

A Rondebosch resident who witnessed the incident immediately tried to help the women and called ADT and the police. He later took them back to his house so that they could call their bank in Belgium to cancel their cards.

Another witness took a photo of the robber’s car, with a clear view of the number plate.

The Rondebosch Community Improvement District (RCID) has already found video footage of the attack and given it to Claremont police detectives.

V Anyone with more information on this incident can call the RCID on 021 689 6423.
