An integrated police operation, which included Law Enforcement officers, was carried out in Manenberg during the early hours of Friday 16 September.

The operation was focused on gang violence and drug dealing including illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.

The crime prevention operation, under the command of station commander Colonel Hendri Hugo, was deployed within hotspot areas.

These included areas of Manenberg known to be “infested” with gang activity. The operation was led by Lieutenant Colonel Wynand Muller.

Captain Ian Bennett, spokesperson for Manenberg police, says during the operation more than 50 addresses were earmarked for searches, which lead to the confiscation of R26 150 in cash and 60g of dagga.

“One firearm that was found in possession of the registered owner has been handed in to be sent for ballistic testing as a routine investigation to ensure that the firearm was not used in the commission of crimes.

“Fifteen people, including two women, were arrested for outstanding cases that will now be finalised for court dates. These focused approach and intelligent driven operations will continue to ensure the safety of the community of Manenberg,” states Bennett.

He adds that Hugo will not allow gangs and their ruthless activity to jeopardise the safety of the community.

“He will do everything in his power to have a back to basics and focused approach to increase visibility, build trust to increase partnerships and to ensure that a quality and efficient service delivery is maintained.
