Jewellery to the value of R50 000 was stolen during a house robbery in Constantia Heights last week.

Warrant Officer Silvino Davids, spokesperson of Wynberg police station, says one of the gardeners was busy in the garden when six unknown men entered the premises on Sunday 11 October just after 15:00.

The robbers forced him and the domestic worker to show them were the owner’s room was. The owner was not at home.

“After showing them the room the victims were tied up with shoelaces in another room. The suspects then proceeded to ransack the house,” he says.

Along with the jewellery the robbers stole R10 000 cash. They fled in a silver Audi.

. In another crime, a man has been arrested and charged with defeating the ends of justice after reporting a false case of armed robbery.

Davids says the man reported that he was approached in his car at the traffic lights at the intersection of Waterloo and Camp roads on Saturday 10 October. A white Golf rolled back towards his car.

“He says he hooted at the driver of the car and two men stepped out and came toward him with a firearm and instructed him to get out, at which point he says he was struck over the head with the gun,” he says.

The man reported that he woke up to find that his jacket, cellphone, cash, wallet and firearm were missing.

“After interviewing the victim it was found that he had reported a false case and the firearm was recovered from his car by himself,” Davids says.

. In a separate incident a man reported a house break-in in Kenilworth.

Davids says the break-in is suspected to have occurred on Tuesday 6 October between 00:30 and 07:30.

“The victim says he went to sleep and everything was locked up and in order. However, when he later woke up he discovered that his cellphone and laptop were missing,” he says.

Davids adds the victim tried to call his cellphone, but it was off and the laptop, which had been on the table, was missing
