Police and supporting agencies in law enforcement successfully arrested 60 suspects during last week.

During last week Philippi police took to the streets and interacted with the Hanover Park community.

Philippi police spokesperson Lieutenant Lance Goliath says the operation which focussed on police visibility and an integrated approach to crime was successful. “Crime prevention teams under the command of commissioned officers were deployed around the business sectors as well as the greater Hanover Park area with the main focus on areas identified as high contributors of crime. Law Enforcement formed part of the crime prevention strategy which will continue over the next few weeks.”

In total police arrested 60 suspects for the past week on various criminal cases.

Goliath says 31 suspects were arrested around Hanover Park on various charges relating to the illegal possession of drugs.

“These drugs include dagga, crystal meth (tik), heroin and mandrax. Tracing operations by local detectives resulted in 12 suspects being arrested on warrants of arrest for various crimes. Several other suspects were arrested on charges of attempted murder, rape, domestic violence, assault, possession of stolen property and shoplifting.
