As a dog lover and a law-abiding citizen I would like to add my ten cents’ worth to the issue of dogs on the beach.

I fully support the need for demarcated animal-friendly areas in general, and not only on beaches. However, what I find to be unfair is the fact that, with all the beaches we have available to us, there is not one beach open for use by dogs throughout the day.

Dog owners are expected to fit into the allocated time zones which are both short and inconvenient, to say the least.

Most people work for a living, and the only time available for some recreation with the dogs is basically during the weekend.

We mostly use Clovelly beach because we like our dog to be off the lead, and in truth this is not really a swimming or recreational-friendly facility.

On the weekends it’s mostly doggy people who are there, and as we shop on Saturdays and attend our local church on Sunday mornings, fitting into the suggested time slots is difficult to say the least.

Why don’t you allocate the bottom end of Clovelly as a dog beach without time restrictions. People who don’t like dogs or don’t want to be bothered with dogs have many options of which beach to go to. Would it really be so difficult to give our four-legged friends just a small piece of land and water that could be used any time for their enjoyment?

This would also give dog owners/ lovers the opportunity to accommodate the ever-changing weather patterns and the relevant tides.

Please be kind enough to give this proposal the consideration it deserves. I am sure that many dog owners who would agree with the contents of this letter, do not have the time to put their thoughts and feelings in writing
