Beware robbers in VW Golf

2015-06-16 06:00

The police are on the hunt for a VW Citi Golf linked to several cases of robbery in Diep River and Claremont.

Captain Angie Latchman, spokesperson of the Wynberg police cluster, says residents should be on the lookout for a black VW Citi Golf with registration number CA 900112.

“The occupants of the vehicle have been linked to several robbery cases in the Wynberg cluster in the past week,” she says.

Latchman urges residents not to confront the occupants of this car if seen, as they could be armed and dangerous.

“Immediately contact your nearest police station,” she says.

“Since these incidents have been reported the Claremont and Diep River police have embarked on intensive crime prevention operations which include stops, searches and high-visibility patrols,” Latchman adds.

Tips which could prevent you from becoming a victim of crime

. If you feel that you are being followed, drive to the nearest police station so that you can be escorted home.

. Request the assistance of your security provider to meet you at your residence, especially if you are arriving home late.

. Always check your rear-view mirrors to see if anyone is following.

. Report all suspicious persons and cars to your local police station.

. If you enter your street, look out for any suspicious or unknown parked cars or person walking or standing around.

. Install security lights that go on when entering the premises.

. Install a panic button in the garage and house within reach upon entering.
