Yusuf Davids from Kensington will be jetting off to the United Kingdom on Thursday to watch the Rugby World Cup final at Twickenham stadium.

His trip was made possible by Shield and Vaseline’s #1TeamNation competition.

The father of two has been a huge rugby fan for almost three decades, but never in his wildest dreams did he think one day he would be able to go and watch a Rugby World Cup game outside South Africa, never mind the final game of the tournament.

“My only memory of a Rugby World Cup match was when I was 16 and my dad took me to see New Zealand vs England in the semi-final at Newlands in 1995. I’m still in shock that 20 years on, I’ll be going to the Rugby World Cup in England. I am a passionate Western Province, Stormers and Springbok supporter, and frequently visit Newlands to cheer on my teams,” he says.

The 36-year-old assistant finance manager will be taking his younger brother Nathier with him to London. They will stay at a Hilton hotel, have time to explore London and, of course, witness the Rugby World Cup final at Twickenham stadium.

Davids won this coveted prize by sharing his support for the Springboks on social media in a competition, initiated by Shield and Vaseline, as a drive to get the nation behind the Springboks for the Rugby World Cup.

Davids is a family man and is involved in promoting fitness in the community.

“In between work and family time I’m involved with a recently established community running club in my area, affiliated to Western Province Athletics, called Kenfac Sport Athletic Club. Our aim is to promote healthier lifestyles through running and encourage the youth to participate in sports. I hope to run my first marathon in the not too distant future too.”
