Celebrating in style

2015-05-05 06:00

The Baxter’s Zabalaza Theatre Festival is celebrating its fifth year, with nearly 50 productions featuring over 400 artists from 30 different areas.

The festival, which started on the weekend, runs at the Baxter Theatre Centre daily until Saturday 28 March.

The productions were primarily selected from the six mini-festivals which were held earlier this year in Robertson, Kraaifontein, Khayelitsha, Delft, Athlone and Nyanga East. There are also 11 female writers and directors featured on the programme.

The festival will boast multiple genres – from drama, poetry, hip hop, dance and musical theatre to physical theatre and theatre for children, performed in six different languages – English, Xhosa, Afrikaans, Zulu, Shona and Swahili.

Also on the programme is a series of specialist workshops conducted by Theatre Patrasket (Denmark/Assitej), theatre for babies with Gabi dan Drote (Germany/Assitej), Complicite (UK), Lara Foot (director’s workshop) and Faniswa Yisa (movement and physical theatre).

Tickets for the festival cost R30 and are available at Computicket. Visit www.baxter.co.za for more information
