Centre provides quiet study space

2015-07-21 06:00

The Ocean View Care Centre wants to help local youth make a success of their schooling and future.

“A large number of our youth are currently struggling academically. An even larger number have not planned yet for their future. These struggles have caused many youngsters to either drop out of school or, at least, consider dropping out at some point. It is especially worrying that many pupils in Grades 10 and 11 are considering making such decisions,” says the Centre’s founder, Johan Kikillus.

There is the need for a a quiet, safe environment where pupils can study without distraction, get guidance on choosing subjects at Grade 9 level and understanding entry requirements at tertiary level, receive counselling, career guidance, life coaching and help with accessing bursaries, he says.

In response to this, the Centre will make two containers available to pupils, initially from 15:00 to 17:00 on week days.

The Centre will need professional help, especially with tutoring and life coaching.
