A few world records may be broken at the seventh annual Earthwave beach festival which will take place at Surfers’ Corner in Muizenberg from 26 to 27 September.

The Guinness world records for the largest bikini parade and the most surfers on the same wave will be challenged at the festival.

The celebration of the beach lifestyle will feature a host of wave-riding and beach activities, a beach bar, entertainment, exhibitions, demonstrations and talks to promote environmentally friendly products and services.

Paul Botha from the organiser Kahuna Promotions co-founded the Earthwave concept with his son Dene.

The record for the bikini parade currently stands at 1085 girls, who paraded for 1.6km in China in 2012.

Despite several attempts to improve on the numbers of surfers riding the same wave in recent years overseas, the record still stands at 110 set in the gentle rolling waves at Muizenberg during the 2009 Earthwave beach festival.

The surf will be alive with the hundreds of participants in the Western Cape Development Surfing Championships, stand-up paddling races and free surfing lessons while the beach will be the venue for touch rugby, demonstrations of the latest wave-riding equipment and the popular digging competition in which youngsters search for valuable prizes buried in the sand.V
