The Strandfontein police have intensified their patrols in a response to crime concerns of the community.

Focusing on problem areas such as bus stops, the beach, ATMs and petrol stations, the police are determined to make an impact by increasing visibility during commuting times and during the early hours of the morning.

Sandy Schuter, Community Police Forum chairperson, says they understand that the police station is under-resourced.

“Strengthening the partnership with CPF safety structures, like our neighbourhood watch and street committees, also partnering with security companies such as Scorpion Security, that helps the police with visibility during patrols. It has helped reduce crime over the past few weeks,” she says.

Since sand dunes completely took over Lukkanon Drive it has made it difficult for the police to patrol the street, but the station has added quad bikes to do dune and beach patrols.

The police have already started daily patrols.

Schuter says they are blessed with the volunteer crime fighters and the faithful street committees of Dieppe Road, Crecy Road and Pilot Way, who have been vibrant in their patrols.

“I salute the gallant souls who sacrifice their time to ensure the safety of the community,” she says
