Course gives info on Jewish festivals

2015-06-02 06:00

Following the successful Torah 101 course presented in Paarl in March, Rabbi Bryan Opert of the Cape Town Bnei Noach community will be presenting Torah 102 at the Ponevez Shul in Gardens, Cape Town from Sunday.

The course will take place over four Sundays in June from 10:30 to noon.

The course will explore the three Biblical festivals, namely Passover (or Pesach), Pentacost (or Shavuot) and Tabernacles (or Sukkot). Their sources, traditions and meaning will be revealed through the critical study of Biblical and classical texts. The agricultural nature of the festivals and the events commemorated reveal the multiple levels of each festival. The course will also provide a framework for the harmony that exists between the Biblical festivals.
