“According to witnesses a white bakkie drove past and shot at the deceased. He died on the scene. The deceased is known as a drug runner,” Kleinsmith says.

She adds five attempted murder cases were also opened. Two incidents occurred in Ottery, where a foreign national was shot in the hand and stomach.

“At about 05:10 on Thursday a foreigner was shot once in the hand and the stomach. The victim was in Edward Avenue, Ottery picking up work colleagues (when he was shot). The suspect is unknown and no arrests were made.

“In another incident on Saturday at 06:40, the complainant alleged that occupants in a red vehicle shot at him,” Kleinsmith says.

She adds the motives for the two shootings is unknown and no arrests have yet been made.

In another incident a suspect was arrested after he shot at a 22-year-old man.

“On Saturday at about 02:50 the complainant alleged that he was standing in Moosa Walk, Parkwood when a suspect known to him approached him and fired several shots in his direction and ran off. The complainant sustained no injuries during the shooting,” Kleinsmith confirms.

A 40-year-old suspect, alleged to belong to a prominent gang in Parkwood, was arrested on charges of attempted murder for the shooting.
