Six one-act plays by acclaimed playwright Christopher Durang will be told with a directorial twist at the Galloway Theatre this month.

Kalahari Film and Media will be presenting an evening of dark comedy, featuring some of Broadway darling Durang’s plays, produced by Michael Murphey and Heike Brunner and directed by Katey Carson from Thursday.

Durang’s absurd characters in seemingly ordinary situations are brought to life by Adrienne Pearse, Dylan Esbach, Danieyella Rodin, Mark Penwill, Roxanne Gabriels, Caroline Midgley, Joe Vaz, Kate McDonald, Alistair Moulton-Black and Heike. Together they help audiences navigate stories about a man at the traffic department, mourners at a funeral, a chatty old lady discussing photosynthesis and divorcees at dinner.

The plays hold a larger-than-life mirror up to modern society and its unwritten codes.

Funerals, Kidnappings, Swizzle Sticks and Other Distractions – An evening of Christopher Durang short plays will run at the Galloway Theatre Thursdays to Saturdays until 5 December with two 18:00 Sunday performances on 29 November and 6 December. V Tickets are available from www.waterfronttheatreschool.co.za, tixsa.co.za or by calling Sharon on 082 772 8867.
