A 76-year-old man was stabbed and punched countless times on his chest and back during a house robbery in Diep River.

The incident occurred on Sunday 13 September at 11:00.

Warrant Officer Keith Chandler, spokesperson of Diep River Police Station says the man was cleaning his house when he saw an unknown suspect in the house.

“He shouted at the suspect who then ran towards him. The man threw a candle stick at the perpetrator, but he carried on running towards him,” he says.

Chandler says the suspects then stabbed and punched the victim in the chest and back.

“The suspect fled the scene with a tablet and some other small items,” he says.

According to Chandler the resident screamed and pressed his panic button which alerted neighbours who came to assist and called the Diep River police.

“Within minutes a known suspect was arrested and the stolen items recovered.”

The resident received medical treatment and is in a stable condition.

A case of house robbery and attempted murder was opened. The suspect was detained at Diep River and will appear in court today.
