Ocean View was flooded with the blue uniforms of local police in a blitz last week.

Eleven people were arrested during the operation carried out by the Wynberg police cluster in which Ocean View now falls, says cluster spokesperson Captain Angie Latchman.

The police undertook an integrated operation named Operation Fiela, meaning to “sweep clean”, on Wednesday last week.

The operation involved over 50 officers from the canine, firearm and liquor control and railway units, as well law enforcement, traffic department and the border police unit, she says.

High visibility foot and vehicle patrols, car stop and searches and tracing operations were some of the activity, says Latchman. Police also executed search warrants at properties suspected of illegal trading.

Over 200 cars were searched and traffic fines to the value of R59 500 were issued. More than 120 people were searched, with one arrest made for possession of drugs, she says.

Ten people were arrested during tracing operations in connection with crimes such as housebreaking, theft, attempted murder, assault and malicious damage to property.
