Eleven arrested with drugs

Eleven people have been arrested with drugs during six shebeen operations in Hout Bay.

During the arrests last week two dagga zolle, 11 stops of dagga and two and a half mandrax tablets were confiscated. In two incidents mandrax powder was also found and confiscated, says Warrant Officer Tanya Lesch, spokesperson of the Hout Bay police station.

. An attempted robbery in Bethal Road, Hout Bay was foiled on Monday last week. The victim stepped into his workshop at about 17:30 when he noticed an unknown man.

“The suspect drew a knife and went towards the complainant with the knife in his hands and a struggle ensued. However, during the struggle the complainant overpowered the suspect,” Lesch says.

She says a security guard and a member of the public managed to apprehend a second suspect. Both suspects were arrested on charges of robbery with a weapon and appeared in the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday last week.

. The Pep store in Hout Bay was robbed on Monday last week. At about 11:00 two unknown suspects entered the store and one of them pointed a firearm at a cashier and demanded her to open the till.

Lesch says the suspects then instructed the cashiers and manager to go to the manager’s office and they fled the scene in a silver Avanza.

“The suspects fled with cellphones and an undisclosed amount of cash. No arrests have been made yet.” she says
