Kensington residents can’t stop singing the praises to the Cape Town Metro Police and the Kensington police for the swift arrest of 11 suspects that robbed Liquor City in 10th Avenue in Kensington last week.

All the suspects appeared in the Cape Town Magistrate’s court yesterday. Kensington police spokesperson sergeant David Stemmet says the men are facing charges of business robbery and illegal possession of unlicensed firearms. Stemmet added that investigations still continue.

The suspects who were all in a white and yellow Toyota Quantum which was used for the robbery, were arrested by officers in Borchards Quarry Drive next to the BP Garage near the Cape Town International Airport minutes after the crime occured. Passersby watched as all the suspects lay on the ground after they were caught by the police. No one was injured during the robbery or the arrest.

CTMPD deputy chief Yolande Faro says Metro Police officers were notified to be on the outlook for the vehicle.

“Members of the Metro Police’s K9 unit reported that they had a visual of the vehicle and when an attempt was made to stop the vehicle, the driver sped off. Members of all areas responded to assist and a few minutes later they managed to stop the vehicle on Borchards Quarry drive,” she says.

All 11 suspects were arrested by metro police. “Officers found two firearms, a replica of a firearm, an undisclosed amount of money and stolen liquorn in the vehicle the suspects were travelling in,” says Faro
