Due to popular demand, Sean Bovim’s Private Presley – A Salute to the King will be returning to Cape Town for a limited season this month.

The contemporary ballet, from the creators of Queen at the Ballet, will be restaged, this time at the Baxter Theatre from Thursday 12 to Saturday 28 November.

The high-energy production features over 30 of Elvis Presley’s songs, including “Love Me Tender”, “Jailhouse Rock” and “Blue Suede Shoes”, while following the rise of one of rock n roll’s greatest legends, portraying key moments from his life.

As with previous productions, Bovim Ballet continues its working relationship with some of South Africa’s top fashion designers. In Private Presley, Craig Port (guest judge on America’s Next Top Model with Tyra Banks and Africa’s Next Top Model with Oluchi) designed the men’s costumes. KLûK CGDT (African Fashion Designers of the year in 2011 and 2012) are responsible for the women’s costumes. Ian West (made famous by his creations for Miss SA contestants and Miss World presenters) made the speciality costumes.

Ulrich Binedell’s set design is complemented by the lighting created by Faheem Bardien, all contributing towards a feast for the senses.

Portraying the epic role of Elvis is Henk Opperman, while Kristin Wilson dances the role of Priscilla and Devon Marshbank is Nick Adams.

Simoné Botha (Miss Deaf SA 2012) and Faye Dubinski portray three of the most well-known love interests in Elvis’s life, namely Ann-Margret Olsson, Natalie Wood and Juliet Prowse.V Private Presley will run Thursdays to Saturdays at 20:00 and Sundays at 15:00 with an extra 15:00 performance on Saturday 28 November. Tickets cost between R150 and R285 each with 10% discounts for pensioners and are available from Computicket. Visit www.bovimballet.com for more information.
