The family now has to cough up R5 000 to have a lawyer relaunch the investigation and to get the case back on the court roll.

“According to the advocate the case was still open and was never closed because of the apparent missing docket.

“We now want to take this matter further,” he says.

He adds his family feels a sense of relief after the missing docket information was recovered but the moment was “bitter sweet”.

“To us as a family it was almost like opening a wound again. It still hurts to this day and we feel like the justice system took us for a ride but we are now going to push for justice in this case. We need the person who killed Allan to pay for his deed because he is walking around as a free man,” he says.

He adds: “Even if we’re not compensated, that is the least of our worries.

“We just want justice for Allan at the end of the day. When police members are shot and killed it’s as if the world must come to a standstill but when they commit a crime towards an ordinary civilian, and minor at that, we are met with a faltered justice system.”
