Film festival on Cape Flats from Thursday

Public spaces across the Cape Flats will be turned into cinemas during the Flats festival of film this week.

The festival from Thursday to Saturday will include a collection of narrative movies, as well as panel discussions and workshops related to the films.

The film line-up for the festival includes As I am, Courage, Hard to get, Four corners, Stukkend, David Olyn, Tears of a Cape Flats mother, Being coloured Black, The Cape Flats DRAG mafia, Follicle, Indians can’t fly, a UCT community health documentary, Luister, Cinderella of the Cape Flats and Glitterboys and ganglands.

Also on the agenda are sessions with some of the filmmakers, providing audiences, artists and industry professionals the opportunity to interact.

“The Flats festival of film is an attempt to wake up new voices that speak to the hearts of our audiences,” says festival director Denver Breda.

The festival will also feature a workshop where 20 local filmmakers of all ages will be provided with extra skills and knowledge that they can use to take their filmmaking and storytelling to another level.
