Healthy living made fun for pupils

Kenilworth Centre’s Kacey and Macey Roadshow “has always been a firm favourite” and was a hit again with pupils recently.

It has become a staple on 10 schools’ calendars in the area around the centre.

This year Kacey and Macey presented a healthy eating and exercise programme. Pupils were taught to use the food pyramid and observe portion control.

The lesson was followed by fun exercises to keep the body healthy. Jugglers and hula hoop artists showed pupils new ways to stay active and Kacey and Macey demonstrated that dancing was the most entertaining and fun way to staying fit.

More than 900 pupils entered a competition to win hampers worth R1000 each.

The winners were presented with their prizes on Saturday 18 April. The winners are:

. Liyema Gcezengana from Sunnyside Primary

. Gabriel Williams from Sunnyside Primary

. Junaid Roode from Muhammadeya Primary

The hampers were filled with goodies from BT Games, Lishon Jewellers and Pick n Pay.

Kenilworth Centre’s Pick n Pay store also provided 40 school lunch packs which were handed out to Thornton Road Primary pupils, who had the most entries overall. The school’s Grade 4 classes entered the most.

Kenilworth Centre says in a statement it “is truly privileged” to be involved with the following schools: Sunnyside Primary School, Windsor Preparatory, Norma Road Primary School, St. Teresa RC, Portevue Primary School, Thornton Road Primary, Bridgeville Primary School, Turfhall Primary School, Muhammadeya Primary School and Kenwyn Primary School
