A homeless man died in a fight with another homeless person on a Claremont street.
Captain Angie Latchman, spokesperson of Claremont police cluster, says an altercation allegedly happened between two homeless persons along Claremont Boulevard on Saturday 28 March at about 14:00. One of the two died on the street.
“During the altercation the deceased was kicked several times on his head and body by the suspect and he died as a result of those injuries,” she says. He was declared dead at the scene by attending paramedics.
Latchman says the deceased has been identified as 49-year-old Xolani Stali. The suspect, Simphiwe Jaca, was arrested and has already appeared in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on a charge of murder.
It was also reported that a Rondebosch Community Improvement District (RCID) hub controller noticed a man on a bicycle in Weltevreden Avenue on last Wednesday at about 03:43.
The controller used the RCID camera in Tullyallen Road.
Latchman says the controller immediately radioed a private security patrol officer who questioned the suspect. He could not give any valid reason for being in the area. The security officer then called the Rondebosch police who arrested the cyclist for possession of stolen goods.
A resident’s son was robbed outside his house in Berket Road on Saturday 4 April at 13:34. The resident called the Claremont police station to report that his son had been robbed by four men driving a silver or grey vehicle, says Latchman.
The man reported that the suspects drove past, stopped and grabbed his son’s cellphone, wallet, keys and remote. They then sped away
