Woodstock police are asking for help in tracing a house robbery suspect who attacked a homeowner with a knife.

A 55-year-old victim was attacked inside his home in Eden Road, Walmer Estate on Saturday last week at about 05:00.

While he was sleeping, the man says, he heard a noise coming from one of the rooms upstairs. The victim went to investigate and as he came up the stairs, he noticed that someone was entering the house from the balcony.

In a scuffle the suspect stabbed the homeowner several times with a knife. The victim managed to remove the attacker’s balaclava and saw that it was someone who used to stay with him. When the victim called the suspect by his name, he fled on foot.

The suspect managed to steal the victim’s cellphone.

Captain Frederick van Wyk, police spokesperson, says the victim was taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment and is in a stable condition.

He says the suspect is Patrick Abongile Bill, a 29-year-old man from the Kraaifontein and Kuils River area.

“A case of house robbery was opened for investigation,” he says.

Police are looking for Patrick Abongile Bill with regards to the robbery. Anyone with information on his whereabouts can contact investigating officer Constable Donovan Petersen at the Woodstock police on 082 469 8468 or 084 684 0909
