Kidnapped girl ‘stalked’

2015-06-16 06:00

A young woman was kidnapped on 8th Street in Kensington last week, but fortunately returned home safely later the same day.

It is alleged that the 19-year-old girl managed to escape her kidnappers in Wellington on Saturday after she was left in a car boot for five hours. She got home on Saturday evening.

It is claimed that the young woman was stalked on Facebook and that she was harassed by the people who kidnapped her shortly before they snatched her into their car around 15:00.

There are also claims that a stalker harassed other women at another house between 5th and 6th Avenue before taking this girl.

Though she got back home the police haven’t stopped searching for the perpetrators. A case of abduction has been opened for investigation.

Police spokesperson Sergeant David Stemmert says they are calling on anyone with information to come forward and help.

“The matter is still being investigated and we are following up on all possible leads. A case of kidnapping has been opened for investigation. We are pleading with community members with any information to come forward and report it as every little bit of information will help with the investigation,” he says.
