Kids can win with their Xhosa stories

2015-05-26 06:00

Xhosa-speaking children are invited to enter the Puku Children’s Literature Foundation story competition.

The competition not only celebrates and preserves the Xhosa language and rich heritage of storytelling, but also raises awareness of the importance of taking care of the environment.

The theme for this year’s competition is “Celebrating our legacy and inventing the future” with the focus on the environment.

Children between the ages of 13 and 19 are invited to submit their 500 to 1500-word handwritten story.

Cape Town participants can drop their entries off at Langa library, Khayelitsha library, Mfuleni library, Belville library, Gugulethu library and the Philippi East library before Friday 24 July.

The first prize is worth R10 000, the second is worth R5000 and the third, R3000. Winners will be announced on International Literacy Day on 8 September
