Man traces own stolen laptop

2015-09-15 06:00

A Muizenberg man whose house was burgled early in September, did his own detective work and found his stolen computer days later in Parow.

The man says since the burglary, in which his laptop and charger were stolen, he kept an eye on advertisements for second hand electronics. It was not long before he saw his computer advertised on Gumtree by a so-called electronics dealer in Station Road, Parow.

Lieutenant Kevin Williams of the Parow police says he made contact with the suspect and arranged to meet him at the dealership. The man also phoned the Parow police, who met him at the suspect’s shop. Here it was confirmed that the laptop did, indeed, belong to the Muizenberg man who had the original box and sales slip with him.

The 35-year-old owner of the shop was arrested for the possession of presumably stolen property. He appeared in court on 9 September, but is still in custody pending further investigation
