A 30-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the robbery and murder of a 17-year-old boy along Eisleben Road.

On Tuesday afternoon last week the pupil at Mondale High School was on his way home from school when he was robbed along the road. Mitchell’s Plain police received a call from the Mitchell’s Plain district hospital at 15:40, says police spokesperson Lieutenant Ian Williams.

“Upon arrival, the members were led to the deceased – a 17-year-old boy who had been stabbed in the chest. It is alleged the boy was walking in the street when he was robbed by unknown persons of his cellphone and school bag,” he says.

The boy was found lying in the street by a passerby who called for help. He later died in hospital.

Following up on information, officers brought in a 30-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman for questioning in connection with the incident.

The 30-year-old man appeared in court last week in connection with the murder. The case is still under investigation.
