Murder accused free

A 41-year-old man has been released after a case against him was thrown out of court last week.

The man had been arrested after police discovered the body of a 34-year-old Rocklands woman on Lukannon Drive.

On Friday 17 April at 10:40 the Mitchell’s Plain Police attended the murder scene, confirms police spokesperson Constable Zandile Marashula.

“On arrival officers recovered the woman’s body. She had sustained multiple gunshot wounds all over her body and was declared dead on the scene by paramedics,” she says.

On the same day officers followed up on a tip-off, which lead to the arrest of the 41-year-old man believed to be the woman’s boyfriend.

The man then appeared in the Mitchell’s Plain Magistrate’s Court on related charges on Tuesday 21 April where the case was dismissed.

According to Cluster Commander Major-General Abraham Goss, the court released the man due to insufficient evidence linking him to the crime.

“Numerous items that were reported missing were found in his possession however the court feels that there is not enough linking him to the murder,” he says.

He says this does not mean that the investigation is closed and that the suspect has not yet been ruled out.

“The case against anyone can be put back on the court role should new evidence against the suspect come up,” he says.

Anyone who can assist in the case is asked to call the Mitchell’s Plain operations room on 021 370 1706 or CrimeStop on 08600 10111
