After the brutal murder of an 18-year-old man, the police are appealing to witnesses to come forward with information that could lead to arrests.

The young man went out for his routine morning run on Thursday last week at about 06:00, like he had done every morning before school.

This was the last day anyone would see him alive. Colonel Elizabeth Hermanus, Lentegeur police station commander, says the man’s body was found at 07:30.

“The police were driving past the scene and noticed his body. What we realised is that many people frequent this area but no-one called in to report the body,” she says.

It is believed that the man was running near the Mandalay train station when he was approached by a group of 20 people.

The man was then brutally attacked by the group and stabbed in the back of his neck.

He was declared dead on the scene.

The police say they have very little information to go on and need residents’ assistance to help solve the case.

“His family is devastated by his loss and need answers. He was not involved in any illegal activities,” says Hermanus.

The motive for the killing is unknown.
