Rosebank musician Viccy Wanliss will be launching her debut album, Pieces of Time at Erin Hall in Rondebosch on Tuesday 6 October.

The album is made up of nine original songs which guitarist and composer Viccy describes as “art music. She’s taken this theme even further by illustrating the pieces in a mandala.

The Pieces of Time project first started in 2009 when Viccy started entering fortnightly song writing competitions on a guitar forum.

Her entries came into their own when she transcribed them for a solo acoustic guitar. The illustrations that go with them come from a combination of drawing on visual influences to compose and shorthand for notation that Viccy had developed.

Her idea is that they can be coloured in while listening to Pieces of Time to aid in relaxation and to enhance the music appreciation and understanding.

“This music is new, thought provoking and comes from the heart,” Viccy says.

Her launch on Tuesday 6 October at Erin Hall (8-10 Erin Road, Rondebosch) starts at 18:00, where she’ll be joined by The Stone Jets. V

Tickets cost R100. Email viccywanliss@gmail.com to book. Visit www.v7.co.za for more about Viccy or for a taste of her music.
