An international networking event for small businesses in Cape Town soon will mark the first time that this event will be held on the African continent.

The annual meeting and forum of the International Network for Small and Medium Enterprises (INSME) is taking place from 26 to 28 May and is set to advance local enterprise development.

According to a statement, local small and medium enterprises (SMEs) will have the opportunity to access a wealth of international knowledge and expertise and engage with industry leaders from around the world at this event, which will be managed by MCI South Africa, an event and conference management specialist.

According to Rashid Toefy, the managing director of MCI South Africa, the INSME annual meeting and forum bring together leading global experts in the field of SME innovation and technology for mutual learning and networking. The event will focus on the role and importance of technology-driven entrepreneurship and innovation in fostering small business efficiency, competitiveness and growth.

“This will be a unique opportunity for South Africans to learn from some of the leading practices globally and for international practitioners to gain exposure to and learn from South African and African practices,” says Toefy.

At the same time MCI will also be hosting a local Forging Enterprise Conference. This event is hosted in collaboration with various partners in the government and corporate sector, such as Osiba Management, the Economic Development Partnership, the department of small business development, Silicon Cape Initiative and

“This unique event which will boast a small business exhibition component which will showcase the latest trends and developments in enterprise development in South Africa and provide a platform for local enterprises to connect and engage with their international counterparts and to forge new business relationships across borders”, he says.

“We are excited to be the event partner for both these prestigious events, which speaks to our core mandate of bringing people together”, says Toefy.

One of MCI’s areas of expertise is having the ability to organise an event that encourages active participation. “The success of an event or conference should not be gauged on how many people attend the event but rather on how many people actively engage with the content”, says Toefy.

“Through hosting both these events we have the ability to shape the business conversations that are taking place on the African continent and to make a meaningful impact”, he concludes.
