The brand new SPCA Ol’ Roy charity shop officially opened on Saturday at its new location in Ottery.

Almost a year since the popular charity shop at the Cape of Good Hope SPCA in Grassy Park burnt down in an arson attack, this much-loved all-sorts store returns, bigger and better than ever before – ready to continue helping animals in need.

In a new partnership with Ol’ Roy and Makro, the SPCA Ol’ Roy charity shop is now at its own off-site location at Shop 22, Ottery Value Centre, Ottery Road and is ready to begin serving the community.

If any proof was needed that this unique charity shop is what the community needs, then the R10 000 revenue from four hours of sales on its opening day, would be just that.

The shop, previously housed in three wendy houses, was gutted by flames in November last year. Thieves broke into the facility and neglected to extinguish an open flame which can only be assumed was used for light. A fire quickly raged through the shop premises, leaving nothing behind in its path. No staff or animals were harmed during the fire.

All needsCatering for all sorts of needs of the surrounding community, the charity shop provides an opportunity to shop for appliances, bric a brac, clothing, linen, pet products, furniture and more.

All proceeds go directly to helping the thousands of animals who find refuge at the Cape of Good Hope SPCA each year.

The shop will also, as a first, be stocking Makro’s exclusive brand of Ol’ Roy quality dog food, as well as hundreds of second-hand good quality books from the Book Shop.

For more information or to donate items for resale at the charity shop, contact the Cape of Good Hope SPCA Ol’ Roy charity shop on 021 704 0683 or visit www.spca-ct.co.za.
